Torre Tavira

Torre Tavira is an eighteenth- century mansion with the tallest tower in the old city, it is named after the first 'look out person'.  Many houses had these towers added so that shipowners and merchants could see ships arriving in the port.

The view from the top helped us understand the geography of Cadiz which sits on an isthmus and is surrounded by sea on three sides.

The Bay of Cadiz is to the west, with El Puerto de Santa Maria in the distance.

And the Atlantic Ocean is to the East.

This vista looks towards the isthmus and route of the train.  You can see the post in the foreground.
